Vagina Monologues
Author: HelenKay, Category: Arts, Special Shows, Theater
Ever wanted to see The Vagina Monologues? Do you even know what I’m talking about? Sounds dirty, I know, but it’s really not. It’s a play based on a series of interviews. It’s performed by a group of women where each one takes a turn in the spotlight. The monologues are funny, poignant and sometimes bawdy. In other words, leave your five-year-old at home with a babysitter. Frankly, the title of the production should give you a hint to do that…as should the name of the venue.
This performance takes place at the The Rubber Rose Sexuality Boutique (told ‘ya)** on Friday (March 14th) at 6 & 8 pm.
**I didn’t name the place, so don’t whine to me about it

Hal Holbrook
Author: HelenKay, Category: Arts, Events & Happenings, Theater
Hal Holbrook has been playing Mark Twain for so long that I now only see him as Mark Twain. But that’s me. You, well, you can see the show HAL HOLBROOK in MARK TWAIN TONIGHT! this weekend. In case you’re still confused, you get to see Hal Holbook play Mark Twain. Did you get that part?
The event takes place at the Balboa Theatre (the stage, not the movie theater) on Saturday (January 19th) at 8:00 p.m. Now, it looks as if the show may be sold out so check with ticket vendors and call the box office before getting all dressed up for the night.

Thanksgiving is over for another year. That means Christmas is right around the corner. For many, Christmas would not be Christmas without It’s A Wonderful Life. If you are one of those, you’re in luck. The Cygnet Theatre Company (on El Cajon Blvd. by SDSU) is performing It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play.
The play is in previews now. Regular shows run from December 1st through December 30th. You can get more information, including that about ticket sales, here.

The Boys Are Back
Author: HelenKay, Category: Music, Theater
The award-winning musical Jersey Boys started in San Diego. Now it’s back.
Do you know what this one is about? It’s the history of the group, The Four Seasons. For those of you old enough to remember, we’re talking about Frankie Valli and friends. For the rest of you: the musical won a Tony and has gotten rave reviews. Let that be enough to convince you to see it.
You can catch this at the Civic Theatre from now through November 11th.
