Neil Diamond Hits Town
Author: HelenKay, Category: Events & Happenings, Music, Special Shows
This is a bit of an early warning. I know. It’s just that if you wait to get tickets, you’ll be out of luck.
So…for those who love Neil Diamond - and I assume that’s everyone - you have three chances to see him in the area. Two are in L.A. at the Hollywood Bowl and one is right here in town.
You can travel to L.A. for the concerts on October 1st and 2nd (a Wednesday and Thursday) at 8:00 p.m. If you prefer the Sports Arena, you can see him in town on October 7th (a Tuesday) at 8:00 p.m.
You are now free to go off and hum Neil Diamond tunes for the rest of the day.

Buble Is Here
Author: HelenKay, Category: Arts, Music, SDSU
No, I did not spell bubble wrong. I’m talking about Michael Buble, the Canadian singer. Here, look:
See, you recognize him. I knew you would.
He’s performing this evening at Cox Arena (SDSU) at 8:00 p.m. This is bad news for me since I live near SDSU and the traffic congestion on event evenings can be…well, horrific. But, for the rest of you in other parts of the city, this is good news so enjoy. Tickets still are available.

Books And Music
Author: HelenKay, Category: Books, Events & Happenings, Festivals, Music
…but not together. If you’re in the mood to leave San Diego and are looking for some culture, I have two options for you.
If you are the music type, Coachella is here. This is a huge festival that takes place at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA (think: Palm Springs area). Three days, starting tonight. Check out the site because, honestly, whatever description I give this will not do it justice.
For those who prefer books to music…or just like driving to LA…this weekend is the L.A. Times Festival of Books. This one is Saturday and Sunday. It’s a booklover’s dream. Meet authors from all different genres, attend author panels, buy books…all good stuff.
Get in your environmentall friendly cars and go…

The Wiggles
Author: HelenKay, Category: Arts, Events & Happenings, Music, SDSU, Special Shows
The Wiggles are in town. For some, that likely sounds like a disease. For others, it’s the only sound that brings peace to an otherwise rowdy home full of preschoolers. For still others…both answers are right.
The Wiggles are agroup of four dudes from Australia who sing kids’ songs and put on elaborate shows that mesmerize kids. If you’ve never heard of them, you likely don’t have kids. In that case, my suggestion would be to stay away from Cox Arena this evening. The Wiggles perform there at 6:30 p.m. This means traffic congestion in and around the college area…where I live. Yes, I will be staying home this evening.

More Concerts
Author: HelenKay, Category: Casino, Music
If you wanted to go to Air Supply concert at Sycuan or the Friday night show of Bad Religion at House of Blues but missed them because they’re sold out (see previous blog entiries), you still have a chance to listen to some music. In addition to the numerous smaller venues around the city hosting all sorts of bands, the alternative rock band Live is in town.
Head out to the Dreamcatcher Lounge at Viejas Casino on Friday at 8:00 p.m. And if you don’t like the music, you can always gamble.

Singing At The House Of Blues
Author: HelenKay, Category: Music, Special Shows
Bad Religion. Sounds like…well, I don’t know what it sounds like. It’s a band. An L.A. rock band. Check out the band’s MySpace page here. You know the songs. You may not know you know them, but you do. And if you want to see the band live in San Diego - hurry.
Bad Religion is playing three shows at the House of Blues. Friday’s show (March 7th) is sold out but tickets are available for the Saturday and Sunday shows. All shows start at 8:00 p.m. So, if you want to go, get tickets now before it’s too late.

Poker And Air Supply
Author: HelenKay, Category: Casino, Music
If I told you the 1980s love ballad band Air Supply was playing at the Sycuan Resort & Casino tomorrow night, would you be surprised?
How about if I told you the concert is sold out…?
